Roles of Dental Practitioners in the Dental Office

You may be used to seeing some of our bright, smiling faces when you enter our dental office. However, do you know what our roles are in the office? A dental practice does not thrive without the work of other dental practitioners besides our dentists in the office. Here is a brief introduction to the other practitioners in our dental office.
Dentists
The most important people in the office are our dentists because they take care of our patients and diagnose dental issues. Dentists prescribe and carry out treatments on patients and can also do dental consultations. Dentists also do emergency procedures after trauma. Without dentists, there would be no dental practice.
Dental Hygienists
Dental hygienists are also essential to our dental practice. They clean teeth and remove pesky plaque and tartar stains. Hygienists also conduct an initial examination of your teeth and report to the dentist. They can apply treatments and sealants to your teeth under the direction of the dentist. They also take X-rays to help dentists keep track of changes to the teeth over time.
Some offices have dental assistants who can assist dentists during dental procedures or surgeries. Dental assistants and dental hygienists both have to have additional training and certification to be employed in a dental office.
Office Manager
A dental office manager has the enormous job of managing insurance claims, patient needs, billing, and accounts for the office. Many office managers have an accounting degree, which allows them to manage the office finances.
Dental Office Staff
No dental office could be complete without discussing the amazing people who greet you when you come in the door. These office staff workers get patient information, take prospective patients on tours, and schedule appointments. They make phone calls for patient reminders, and they collect payments.
