When Should I Take My Young One to The Dentist

Posted on 5/9/2022 by Southern Family Dental Care
When Should I Take My Young One to The DentistDental care in children is important to help them grow healthy teeth and avoid dental complications which may cause a lifetime effect. You should take your child to a pediatric dentist as early as 1 year. Pediatric dentists help to monitor the growth of a baby's first teeth. Milk teeth help in creating space and preparing for the growth of permanent ones. Therefore, if the first teeth have a problem, it will affect the growth of permanent teeth.

Dental Cavities

Too much sugar, acid from foods and not practicing proper dental hygiene causes tooth decay which eventually forms cavities. A visit to the dentist is vital when this happens to avoid jaw damage and infections.

Grinding

Grinding teeth also known as Bruxism is a condition you might notice in your little one. This condition may be physical, genetic or physiological. Bruxism may lead to tooth erosion and damage to the joints that connect the jaws to the skull.

Teeth Sensitivity

Tooth decay if not treated progresses and exposes the nerve. Your child's teeth become sensitive when this happens and eating or drinking cold and hot things becomes a pain for your child.

Tooth Misalignment

When you notice your little one's teeth are not in a straight line, it is time to visit the dentist. Crooked teeth may cause your teeth to wear and tear, damage your gums and affect your jaw muscles.

Early Permanent Tooth Eruption

In some cases, the permanent tooth erupts early before the milk tooth falls out. When this happens you should take your young one to the dentist to avoid overcrowding. The dentist will extract the milk tooth causing minimal pain to your child than doing it at home. If your child has any of these symptoms, schedule an appointment in our clinic.
